Firozabad
34 km south of the taluk headquarters Gulbarga. 20 km southwest of Shahabad. It is a historically important place on the right bank of the Bhima river and is connected to the State Highway No. 19. From here till now, one corrupted inscription of about the 12th century belonging to the Chalukya period of Kalyana, 13 inscriptions belonging to the rule of the Bahmani and Adil Shahi kings have been reported. The Bahmani Sultan Firoz Shah Bahmani (1397-1422) built this city and built a fort (on the model of the city of ‘Fatehpur Sikri’ built by Akbar) on the advice of his courtiers to shift the capital from Gulbarga, but the capital did not shift. The Jami Masjid of the Bahmani period and the Dargah of Khalifat-ur-Rahman are also here, and the early stages of Indo-Islamic style can be seen here. The beautiful paintings adorning the roofs of some of the buildings here are attractive. But due to various reasons, this city did not become the capital of the Bahmanis and the capital was shifted to Bidar. As a result, it lost its political importance.
