Kalgi, located 1 km from Kalaburagi, is mentioned in inscriptions as ‘Kaluge’. This place, which was the capital of the Banavamsa dynasty, was a religious and educational center of the Kajakiya. The rulers of the Kalyani Chalukyas, such as Jagadekamalla, Bibbersa, and Jayakarna, built many temples and agraharas here. Someshwara, Bibbishwara, Suryanarayana, Kaleshwara, Jayalingeshwara, Gokeshwara, Hanamata temples and Jain basadis are important here. These temples of the Kalyani Chalukya architectural style have many beautiful and attractive sculptures.
